What is a NUANS report?
NUANS (Newly Upgraded Automated Name Search) compares your proposed name against registered corporations, business names and trademarks across Canada. The registry uses the report to decide whether your name can be approved.
When do I need a NUANS report?
You need one to incorporate a named corporation, to change a corporation's name, and for most business name registrations in New Brunswick. A numbered corporation, such as 100001 New Brunswick Inc., does not need one.
How much does a NUANS report cost?
Our NUANS name search report is $50 plus HST. If you want us to check a few names for conflicts first, our business name pre-search is $9.99.
How long is a NUANS report valid?
A NUANS report is valid for 90 days. You need to file your incorporation or registration within that time, or order a new report.
Does a NUANS report guarantee my name?
No. The report shows similar names that already exist; Service New Brunswick or Corporations Canada makes the final decision. A distinctive name with a clear descriptive word has the best chance of approval.
